Fourth PSG Meeting

We had our fourth PSG meeting at Delifrance at TTSH on Saturday, 26/7/08. Four mothers turned up, one of which was a new member. Meng Ee was also there to give his input and advice.

Amanda came along too as she just had her check up at Camden Medical. The doctor gave her more eye drops and steroids and wanted to monitor her closely.

As for our PSG, we have made good progress. Lay Hong had created a ymail account and a blog. There is still so much more work to do. Unfortunately, Lay Hong and myself have been doing all the work. We have discussed this before and we hope to delegate some tasks to the other mothers.

Birthdays are meaningless!

Amanda is just a child and yet she has suffered so much. As a mother, I feel so helpless. I can't do anything to help my child. How can she even celebrate her 14th birthday? It's only 5 days away. Everything is a blur to her now!

The news from the doctor wasn't very encouraging. He said that a "rejection line" had appeared on the cornea. He is giving her more drugs and eye drops and wanted to monitor her closely.

Amanda's 3rd and 4th Uncles were very thoughtful. They bought birthday cakes for her. When they asked her to make a wish and cut the cake, she suddenly breakdown and cried. Then, she said that birthdays are meaningless!

"Foreign Body"

Friday afternoon, 25/7/08, Amanda called me in the office. She sounded anxious and said that she needed to see Dr Seah. Immediately, I sensed that something was wrong. I recalled that in the morning she said she couldn't see her watch. I thought it was her fever affecting her vision so I told her to go back to sleep and skip school for one day.

At the clinic, we had a rude shock when the doctor said that a "foreign body" like a white speck was stucked to her eye. He had to cut away one stitch to remove it. It was causing an infection and thus affected Amanda's vision. The doctor wanted to monitor her closely and told us to come back the following day.

We were disappointed as Amanda was supposed to go for a minor surgery next Saturday to remove the stitches.

Motivational and Inspirational Quotes

One of Amanda's favourite quote is "Courage doesn't mean you are not afraid, it means you are afraid but you stand up to that fear". Mrs Veeran, her school councillor taught her this. I believe she will never forget this quote and Mrs Veeran for her kindness.

For me, I have recently come across this one from My Paper "Live your life like a coffee bean would". The moral behind the story is very meaningfuly and it has inspired me so much. Like the saying goes, "Life is not a bed of roses". When life batters us, when people hurt us physically, mentally or spiritually we need a place of safety where we can rest and find restoration. God is our Refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1).

Company's Trip to Batam

My company organised a 2 days/1 night weekend trip to Batam View Resort for the staff and their families. The trip was subsidised for staff only.

Alvin had just returned from his own company trip in Koh Samui, Thailand. So he wasn't keen to go Batam. The kids thought it would be boring so they preferred to stay at home. However, I managed to persuade Matthew to join me. It would solve my problem of getting a room mate.

Although it was a short trip, Matt enjoyed himself very much especially playing the foosball game with my IT colleagues. As for me, I managed to squeeze in some shopping and bought my first Polo Ralph Tee, and not forgetting a relaxing aromatherapy massage.

Transfer letter

I had been bugging my HR colleagues so many times to quickly prepare the so called "Transfer Letter". Finally, it was done. Before my boss signed it he had to confirm/verify with HR one more time. Finally, I had signed the letter yesterday and handed it back to HR. What a relief! I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Beyond Vision Parents' Support Group

Finally, our group has a name - "Beyond Vision Parents' Support Goup". On top of that, we also have a ymail account and our very own blog http://beyondvisionparents.wordpress.com/. Lay Hong has done a great job on the blog.

I feel a sense of achievement that I am able to contribute and be part of the group. There is so much to do and I hope that the other parents will be as committed as Lay Hong and myself.

Hand-over paper

It wasn't easy but I have finally completed my hand-over paper for my successor. The list of tasks is very long. I've tried to show it to my boss but he just didn't care or want to have a look. Well, I am practically going to 'spoon-feed' my successor whoever she may be. The crazy thing is he hasn't even confirmed hiring anyone yet. I sincerely hope she will have an easier time than me.

Next, he wants me to prepare an Orientation Program for my successor!!!
