Bangkok here I come!

This will be my 2nd trip to Bangkok this year. It would also be my first ever trip with my 2 sisters, Margaret and Maureen, my 2 best friends, Phyllis and Pamela, Jean, my sis in-law, Bao Li, my niece and Amanda.

I have just finalised the itinerary this afternoon. I am really looking forward to this trip. Bangkok, here I come again!

Paralegal Studies - 2nd Semester Results

The results are out. I have passed the exams! I scored As for both Legal Comms and Principle of Management, and a C for Contract Law, the toughest subject.

It's going to get tougher at next semester. For Computer applications, as a group project we had to design our own website. As for Managing People, there will also be a group project and role play cum presentation is one part of it. For Law of Tort, there will either be individual or group project.

Dad's 78th birthday

We celebrated dad's 78th birthday in advance on Sun, 15/11/09 (actual birthday on 18/11/09). We had thai food and cheese oreo cake. Bao Li came along and join in the birthday celebration. She was doing a sleepover at my house from Sunday to Wednesday.

Renovation to dad's bathroom

The renovation to dad's bathroom took at least 2 months to complete. At first, I wasn't very happy with the quote. I thought that $1,800 was expensive, just to widen the door, built a ram and install a new slide-swing door. In the end, I gave in because the contractor was Andy's friend. Now that the renovation is over, my next task is to order the special bath wheelchair for dad.

Amanda won first prize in a writing competition

Amanda won the first prize in a writing competition organised by SAVH, under the junior category. Her prize was $500 worth of Fairprice shopping vouchers. Before the judges announced the winners, we had a chance to hear the audio clip of the stories. They were all very good. I think Amanda did expect to win the competition at all. In fact, she didn't know what story to write about and manage to submit her entry just in time before the closing date.

Amanda's story was called "My Grandpa", based on grandpa's true story. I guess the judges were touched by the story of how grandpa almost died in the war but survived, and went on to save other people's lives by being a blood donor.

I was filled with so much pride when Amanda went up to receive her prize.

The family is very proud of Amanda, especially grandpa.

Kids' Exams Results

As I had anticipated, Amanda didn't do so well in the 3 science subjects ie. Biology, Physics and Chemistry. She didn't fail but passed all 3 subjects marginally. However, she did very well in her pet subjects ie. English, Literature and History. Because she didn't do so well in the 3 sciences, she was asked to drop Bio. As I expected, Amanda refused to drop Bio or any of the 3 sciences. So we had to appeal to the VP, Mdm Rina. In fact, I am so glad that we had a discussion with her. Mdm Rina has no doubt that Amanda will pass the O levels, but she stressed that Amanda needs to strategise and focus her energies on the subjects that she is good at and to aim for distinctions. She managed to convince my dear girl to take combined Physics and Chemistry, which is at a lower level. But Amanda still wants to do pure Bio.

As for Matt, he failed Chinese once again (48.5) but it was a big improvement as compared to term 3. Overall, his results for the other 3 subjects have also improved.
