My working career

Well, I've seen many bosses come and go during the 20 years of my working career as a secretary. This time, my no. 6 boss is leaving to take up a new position in Bangkok, Thailand.

After the official announcement of my boss' departure, I had one week to organise a farewell party for him. It had been a very difficult and stressful period for me. Somehow I managed and didn't get a nervous breakdown! In fact, the farewell party for my boss went very well. He was very touched and it was a very emotional moment for him/his wife and myself. I have worked with this boss for 5 years and he is one of my nicest boss - a very humble and down to earth person I've ever met. Amanda even wrote him a farewell letter. She said all those things for me which I couldn't express in words. She's such a sweet girl.

A number of colleagues have called me to wish me good luck with the new boss. I am thankful that many of my colleagues are also my dear friends. They mean well and I know that I have their support if I need their help.

Amanda also said "don't worry mum, I'll support you". Hee...hee...

Women's Health Talk and PSP Slim

I attended a women's health talk with my 2 friends on Sat, 24/11/07 at the Sheraton Tower Hotel. My friends and I agreed that the talk by the various doctors/specialists was very informative. Personally, I was very happy that I attended this talk. I learnt quite a lot especially on the breast and colon cancer.

That evening, we bought Matt a PSP Slim at the Yew Tee neighbourhood store. In fact, I was reluctant to buy it. I was concerned that Matt would become addicted to the games and thus, neglect his studies. However, Alvin said we ought to keep our promise as Matt's position in class has improved. He was in 8 position (1 up from the previous semester). Furthermore, Alvin is worried that Matt might get restless on the bus trips in China. The PSP would keep Matt happy.

Matt owes me a letter on why he deserved a PSP, and he has list down his 3 goals for 2008!!!

Follow-up breast check

Was referred by company's doctor to a Breast Specialist at Gleneagles Medical Centre. I went for the check-up yesterday, 27/11/07. In fact, this was the second doctor I consulted. I felt more comfortable with this doctor. He assured me that lump is tissue (tissue hardening) and it is not serious. However, I will need to go back in Mar next year for a follow-up check. What a relief! At least, I have a peace of mind now and I can relax and enjoy my China holiday.

Lately, I'm very stressed up at work with the changes in the office. My current boss will be posted to another country, and I will have a new boss next year in 2008!

Amanda's school band performance at Sentosa

The day 17 November has finally arrived! We are all so excited for Amanda. She will be performing with her school band in Sentosa in the afternoon. It has been a while since we all last visited Sentosa. Alvin's cousin from Holland and his wife, Larry, Jean and Bao Li came along too.

Overall, I think everyone had a fun day at Sentosa. The kids and Holland cousin had even consulted the Indian Fortune-teller. I think in the end, Amanda was relieved that the band performance was over. If I read her mind correctly, I think she will quit the band now!

Grandma's problems

This isn't the first time mum is having maid problems. But this time it's rather serious. Mum told me she can't tolerate maid anymore and wants to send maid back to the agency. Mum refused to listen when I suggested that I'd be the mediator for the two of them. Maid tells me one story and mum tells me another. After discussion with my brother, he said that all 3 of us would have to go to the maid agency tomorrow.

I was really frustrated because mum's problems has become my problems. Without the maid she was grumbling all the time. She cannot care for dad because she's old and weak! I just hope that she understands that maid is there to help dad.

Later in the evening, mum called to say that dad needs the maid and therefore, don't send maid back. I tried to counsel mum and asked her to be more tolerant. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope that all will be fine for the next few ....

P.S. Created my own mini cheese cupcake tonight. Cupcake has party cube cheese on the inside and topped with shredded mozzarella. The kids loved it!

Lump in Breast

On Sat, 3/11/07 I went for my usual pap smear check-up. Gynae did a breast exam for me and felt a lump on my left breast. I had my mammogram done the week before (on Friday). X-ray did not detect anything unusual. Gynae said it might be tissue thickening but to be on the safe side he wants to refer me to a breast specialist.

Ultrasound scan on my womb showed a 1 cm fibroid. Gynae wants to monitor and asked me to come back in 6 months' time.

At the end, gynae said my condition is not serious and asked me not to worry. But how can I not worry! I'll go church tomorrow to pray for God's blessings.

School band performance

Amanda is very fickle-minded. She has been saying that she wants to quit band but keep delaying and changing her mind. She is quite discouraged because she is not progressing. She can't seem to get the right rhythm and she doesn't like to play percussion. Worse still, the band master made her the 'back-up's back-up'. Then 2 days ago, she told us that she will be performing with her school band on 17 Nov at Sentosa. So she definitely can't quit band now because she's got a performing role. And her band members will hate her if she quit at this point of time.

Amanda is feeling the pressure now. She keeps grumbling about the long hours of practice. But I keep telling her that practice makes perfect, and with perseverance and determination she will do well.

Well, as a consolation she has earned 6 points for CCA for the 1st year.

Pictured here is Amanda enjoying my doughnut!
